Hong Kong: Mandarin Oriental has launched sustainability platform MO•RE as the group places resilience, connection and regeneration as important aspects of its growth.
Over the past 15 years, the group has reduced Scope 1 and 2 carbon emissions by 30 per cent. Its colleagues have also contributed more than 80,000 hours through volunteering.
The platform is designed around three interconnected pillars:
- MO•Resilience focuses on identifying local climate risks and setting a clear route to reduce property emissions to net zero by 2050.
- MO•Reconnection focuses on redefining sustainable luxury as something guests and colleagues can experience through family, culinary and wellness programs.
- MO•Regeneration focuses on investing in the ecosystems, communities, skills and living cultural heritage, such as biodiversity preservation.
Together, these concepts will shape the group’s investment, development, and design to operations and guest experience.
“Mandarin Oriental’s pioneering spirit has long driven us to advance sustainability in luxury hospitality,” said Laurent Kleitman, Mandarin Oriental’s group chief executive. “MO•RE is a decisive step forward. It moves sustainability from the margins to the core of our business; strengthening resilience, improving operational performance and safeguarding the destinations that inspire our guests and define our hotels. As we grow, MO•RE sets the direction for the business we want to build and the legacy we intend to leave.
“The next frontier for luxury hospitality is to use its influence with greater purpose. MO•RE aligns our business decisions with what guests increasingly value: distinctive places, deeper connections to destinations and hospitality that contributes to their future. Our ambition is to make sustainability a business priority, a shared commitment with our partners and a joyful experience for our guests,” he added.
