UK: Augill Castle Hotel, a 19th century property in Eden Valley, is for sale at a guide price of £2.25 million.
Originally built in 1841, Augill Castle is located in Cumbria’s Eden Valley and has been owned and operated by Simon and Wendy Bennett for the last 25 years. The couple bought the site in 1997 as their primary family home and went on to develop a three-bedroom guest house, 12-bedroom boutique hotel and separate five-bed owners cottage.
Amenities at the site include The Music Room restaurant with 46 covers, a conservatory bar, drawing rooms for afternoon teas and events, and a library.
The castle includes 12 acres of private grounds and sits in the centre of a working estate where the owners raise castle, sheep and pigs.
Mr Bennett said: “It has been a joy and honour to have shared our magical home and the simple joys of country life with our guests over the years. We couldn’t have asked for a more fulfilling life but after a quarter of a century it’s time for something new.”
Neil Thomson, associate director in the hotels agency team at Colliers which is marketing the property, said: “We’re pleased to announce Augill Castle Hotel and Restaurant as our latest instruction. This castle is truly one of a kind, not only is it full of history, its prime location in the heart of the northern countryside, offers a special and rural setting, attracting visitors from around the world. This is a very exciting opportunity for an investor looking to take on a fully established business and I’m sure will attracted a good amount of interest.”
