US: citizenM Washington DC Capital marks the fifth US hotel for the group, and the fourth East Coast location joining two in New York and one in Boston.
The 12-storey, 252-room property features seven societyM meeting rooms for up to 18 people, and a cloudM rooftop bar with terrace serving cocktails.
All guest rooms come complete with a XL king-size bed, ambience-controlling MoodPad, free movies, and a rain shower.
Artwork in the rooms are from Damon Arhos, Matthew Mann, Andy Yoder and Melvin Nesbitt, with work exploring queer culture and social activism to consumer culture and the environmental crisis.
Self check-in/out is available via citizenM’s kiosks or through its new contactless app. At canteenM, which is open 24/7 for food, snacks and drinks, all produce is sourced fresh from Chef Jess, a local women-owned business.
The hotel’s facade is wrapped with a mural by Erik Parker, a New York-based artist known for his cartoonish compositions inspired by American subculture. Inside, local artist JD Deardourff has pieces lining the lounge walls and ceiling, and artist Amit Shimoni has on show illustrations of former presidents presented as modern day hipsters.
In the near future, citizenM will welcome a second 292-key Washington DC property located in the NoMa district. By 2025, the group will have around 40 properties globally (open or in development), with sites planned in Miami, Los Angeles, San Diego, San Francisco, Chicago, and Seattle.
