Japan: International Hotels Group has announced that its Hotel Indigo brand will be expanding to the town of Hakone Gora.

Hotel Indigo Hakone Gora, located a one and a half hours from Tokyo, plans to integrate Indigo’s quality hotel designs with the town’s hot springs, food and culture.

The town of Hakone Gora is a historic getaway for Tokyo’s citizens, with a combination of vibrant nature, classic onsens, and contemporary museums. The hotel’s design takes influence from this, with Yosegi-zaiku woodwork adorning the lobby’s walls, as well as features like Ukiyo-e paintings and contemporary artwork completing the look.

The hotel’s features include 98 rooms and suites, each including access to hot springs, restaurant and bar facilities focused on locally sourced ingredients, and spa facilities with treatment by Thai Spa brand HARNN.

Paul Tsuji, the hotel’s general manager, said of the announcement: “Hotel Indigo Hakone Gora offers a refreshing new way to explore the Gora neighbourhood. From the hotel design to restaurant and bar concepts and local partnerships, each guest will experience the art of storytelling through Hakone’s century-old history to its modern, adventurous spirit.”

This is one of many recent openings for the brand, including openings in Huntsville, Alabama, and Moscow. With Japan’s hotel business seemingly on the rise, this may be an introduction to a largely profitable market for Indigo’s growing brand.
