US: Simon Development Group is to start construction next year on a 33-storey, 260-room hotel in the Nomad neighborhood of New York City.

It will be managed by Commune Hotels, the company formed from the merger of Thompson Hotels and Joie de Vivre Hotels.

The property, at 11-13 East 31st Street, between 5th Avenue and Madison Avenue, will feature a 125 seat restaurant, a lounge and a rooftop bar with unobstructed views. It will open sometime in 2014.

The Nomad area has been a hub for boutique hotels in recent years, with the openings of the Ace Hotel (29th and Broadway), the Nomad Hotel (28th and Broadway),  the Flatiron Hotel (26th and Broadway), The Gansevoort Park Hotel (32nd and Park Ave South), and the MAve Hotel (27th and Madison)
