US: Salt Hotels, a collection of boutique hotels across the United States, will debut its latest property, The West Hotel, in Minneapolis next year.
The West Hotel is a collaboration between Minneapolis based developer Commutator LLC, Snow Kreilich Architects, Neri&Hu, and Greiner Construction.
Housed in a former bras foundry, the hotel will feature 123 guest rooms and a lobby including communal workspaces, a fireside lounge, a library, a stone cellar cocktail bar, a rooftop bar with an outdoor terrace featuring views of the city, an outdoor dining patio, and six event spaces.
David Wilson, partner of Commutator LLC, said: “My partners and I are elated to bring these iconic historic buildings back to life, while setting a new standard for superb design and hospitality excellence in Minneapolis. With Salt Hotels’ gracious management style, The West will be a welcoming community gathering place for locals, and an inspiring destination for visitors from around the world.”
Local James Beard Award recipient, chef Tim McKee, will manage the culinary operations. The hotel’s main restaurant will offer Basque-inspired food of northern Spain, and McKee will also launch an Eastern Mediterranean inspired bakery featuring a wood fired oven.

Opening in late 2023, The West will join Salt Hotels’ upcoming developments in Nantucket, MA, Newport, RI, Litchfield, CT and Mexico. The group has existing properties in various US locations, including Los Angeles, Miami, Nantucket, and the Hudson Valley.
