US: Former owner of the Whitney Hotel, Joe Jaeger, has sold the property to Angevin & Co founder Robert Thompson.

Thompson, in partnership with GBX Group, has purchased the 93-room hotel for $16.9 million. It is located in the Central Business District in downtown New Orleans.

FAM Design will work on renovating the hotel and add a restaurant, a cocktail bar and a flower shop. An opening is expected in Q1 2023.

Thompson said: “[I’m] so proud and excited to announce that we’ve acquired the historic boutique hotel, The Whitney, in New Orleans. With an abundance of enthusiasm we immediately begin the design and permitting process on our way to launching a vegetable-forward southern influenced restaurant accompanied by a moody craft cocktail bar and an aroma filled flower shop as part of The Whitney’s top to bottom renovation.”

A rebrand is planned however the name of the hotel is yet to be revealed.

Jaeger said: “When Robert articulated his vision for The Whitney Hotel, I knew the property would be in great hands with Angevin & Co. Robert is looking at both The Whitney, and the city, with fresh eyes, and the ideas he’s bringing to the forefront will have a positive and lasting impact on the hospitality and tourism industry in New Orleans.”

Tyler Robinson of Urban Properties represented Thompson in the transaction.

In August last year, Thompson partnered with Lark Hotels to acquire the Frenchmen Hotel. Additional hospitality projects centred around restaurant concepts are to roll out under the partnership.
