US: During the Airbnb analyst call for its Q2 2025 financial results, CEO Brian Chesky said the company will “aggressively” target further expansion into hotels.

Airbnb has released its Q2 2025 earnings results, showing Q2 revenue of $3.1 billion and net income reaching $642 million. The company booked 134.4 million “nights and experiences” which represented a seven per cent annual increase.

Chesky said: “We had a strong Q2, exceeding expectations across our key metrics, which reflects the progress we’ve made against our priorities, including unveiling Airbnb’s next chapter. We’re excited by the early momentum behind the launch of Airbnb services and reimagined Airbnb experiences, and believe both will be key contributors to long-term growth.”

During its analyst call, Chesky noted mounting regulatory pressure on short term rentals and increased competition from hotels as ongoing headwinds.

Regarding hotels specifically, Chesky added: “We’re going to be going significantly more aggressively into hotels. We’ve spent a lot of time looking at hotels as a business. We think it’s really compelling, and we think that there’s going to be a lot more to do with hotels on Airbnb.”

Airbnb has been in conversations with hotels “around the world”, including Europe where a “huge per cent of hotels are independent”. According to Chesky, hoteliers are looking for “incremental travellers”.

Previous efforts to increase hotel supply on Airbnb include the 2019 acquisition of HotelTonight

“We absolutely are open to acquisitions, and we are going to be looking at it,” said Chesky. “And I think that we are now in a better place to consider acquisitions now that… we have this new expanded strategy where we’re focused not just on all aspects of travelling, but also living.

“What we’re trying to do is build a platform – a platform that has homes, services, experiences, hotels, and much more. And we’re going to try to be expanding this platform and continue to [launch] new businesses over and over again.”
