UK: Former Warwickshire monastery has undergone first phase of multi-million pound refurbishment.

Clarenco has completed phase one of a three phase development of Stanbrook Abbey, an extensive former monastery set in 21 acres of Worcestershire countryside. Phase two will consist of 52 new bedroom suites which will open by autumn 2013.

Stanbrook Abbey opened to guests in July and will host luxury weddings, events, concerts, and corporate functions. It also has a five-bedroom manor house, Brides Manor available for exclusive use.

Clarenco owner Mike Clare, the founder of bed retailer Dreams, said: “Our Clarenco aim is to restore and develop iconic and unusual properties in a sympathetic way that is in keeping with their historic and unique character and I think I can safely say that Stanbrook Abbey is one of the most ambitious projects we have undertaken and judging by the results of the first phase, it is going to be absolutely spectacular once it is finished. We can now host luxury weddings and events, something that is already proving very popular and the team here is really looking forward to having plenty of diners in the bistro and self catering guests in Brides Manor.”

Stanbrook Abbey was the final Clarenco opening of 2012 following the launches of Spitbank Fort in the Solent; Carberry Tower, Ackergill Tower and Kinnettles Castle in Scotland and Plas Rhianfa in Anglesey.

Clare revealed he is also in discussions to buy a Scottish island and is still in the market for “weird, wacky and unusual” buildings for conversion to hospitality businesses.
