Ruby Hotels to open second Cologne property in 2022

Germany: Munich-based hotel brand and pioneer of the ‘Lean Luxury’ philosophy, Ruby Hotels, has announced plans to open its second property in Cologne in Q3 of 2022.

The latest hotel will follow the opening of the brand’s first Cologne property next year, and forms part of an expansion plan for Ruby Hotels to unveil a total of twelve new hotels by 2022.

Set within a former post office in Cologne’s trendy Ehrenfeld neighbourhood, the epicentre of the city’s thriving creative scene, the hotel will have a city-centre location with excellent links to public transport, with the rail station opposite the hotel offering a direct connection to Cologne Bonn Airport and Cologne Central Station.

In a collaboration with real estate partners Metropol Immobiliengruppe, the hotel will house 165 rooms and will be the first in the Ruby Hotels portfolio to offer extended-stay ‘RESIDENT rooms’, created with the business traveller in mind.

With a more spacious design, an additional wardrobe and fridge, extended-stay guests will have access to a fully-equipped co-cooking and co-dining area. All guests will be able to access a ‘Galley’ kitchen on each floor with complimentary hot drinks, a vending machine offering locally-produced snacks and drinks, an ironing station, washing machine and dryer.

In addition to the extended-stay rooms, the new project in Ehrenfeld will also feature co-working spaces of almost 2,500 m², called Ruby Workspaces. These spaces will be designed to feel like a second home for tenants, with wall-panelling, furniture and atmospheric lighting shaping the studio-like rooms.

Straight-forward pricing includes high-speed Wi-Fi, a print quota, a reception and concierge service, in addition to a free selection of beverages. The package also includes a contingent of hours for the use of the multifunctional event and meeting rooms.

Cutting-edge technology will be on offer throughout the property.

In each room, guests will find a personal tablet PC and smartphone pre-loaded with Ruby Hotels’ curated Cologne city guide, social media apps and unlimited data and calls to use throughout their stay. A state-of-the-art self-check-in system will be installed on tablets to reduce check-in time to under one minute, while a laid-back, contemporary design will see a Marshall guitar amp included in each room.

Just like with the group’s other houses, the latest hotel will follow Ruby Hotels’ ‘Lean Luxury’ philosophy of incorporating a desirable location, high-quality fittings, and outstanding design. The hotel group aims to carry this out by offering stays at an affordable price and cutting out the superfluous details.

Ruby founder and CEO, Michael Struck, said: “This works because we accommodate luxury in a relatively condensed space, similar to luxury yachts, and we forego unnecessary services. Thanks to proprietary technical innovations, we plan, build and organise ourselves differently from conventional hotels.

“To be precise, we plan and build in a very modular way and centralise as well as automatise processes behind the scenes wherever possible. This helps us create a luxurious and unique hotel experience at an affordable price,” he added.

Every hotel is designed and developed individually, with distinct references to local themes and stories.
