Shoreditch and City of London to get five new boutique hotels in next two years

UK: A string of new boutique hotels are due to open in the City and its eastern fringe.

London’s pipeline of new boutique and lifestyle properties shows little sign of slowing down, with five significant openings planned for the City and Shoreditch neighbourhoods in the next two years.

The Ace Hotel in Shoreditch will be the first of the new properties to open, in September 2013, closely followed by the 200-room City Tower By Montcalm, on City Road, which will be welcoming guests by the end of the year.

The City Tower By Montcalm is part of a new 23-storey tower development created by architect Will Alsop, dubbed The Doodle because of the scrawls of bold colour decorating its lower floors.

Also to come in the region are the first Nobu hotel in Europe – on Willow Street in Shoreditch, and a CitizenMhotel within the Shoreditch Village scheme, which could be completed by mid-2015.

Architects EllisMiller recently won planning for the £75 million Shoreditch Village scheme  – the 185-bed CitizenM Shoreditch will be part of a 14,000 square metre mixed-use project which will include hotel, retail, cafe, office and residential spaces.

A second Montcalm hotel, The Royal London House By Montcalm, is also set for a late 2013 opening. A £15 million redevelopment of the listed Royal London House on the north side of Finsbury Square, it will open as a 256-room five star hotel with a destination restaurant, a spa and gym, and a banqueting suite on the lower ground level.
