UK: Sir Terence Conran, Lady Conran and Peter Prescott have won the Independent Hotelier of the Year Award 2013 for the Boundary Hotel in Shoreditch, London.
Presented with the award by last year’s winner, Jeremy Goring at the Independent Hotel Show on Wednesday 30th October, Sir Terence said: “It is almost five years since we opened Boundary and we are delighted to get this very special and personal award. We like to think it recognises the love, attention to detail and individuality of our little hotel in the heart of Shoreditch. A lot of our own character went in to the design and planning and we have enjoyed keeping this very personal project well-maintained while also introducing new ideas. Little things like introducing new art and objects and changes to our rooftop garden that keep it open all year round all make the hotel very special for us.”
Peter Prescott said: “As we approach our fifth anniversary this award is great news and fantastic for our managers and staff, many of whom have been with us since day one.”
Other hoteliers nominated for the award included Robin Hutson (Lime Wood and The Pig), Paul Milsom (Milsom Hotels), Andrew Stembridge (Chewton Glen & Clivenden House), Christoph Brooke (Hillbrooke House), Charles and Edmund Inkin (The Felin Fach Griffin), Claire Randall (Lucknam Park), and Ruth and Ken Hunt (Combe House).
Tim Etchells, managing director of Single Market Events Ltd, organisers of the Independent Hotel Show, said: “I want to take this opportunity to personally congratulate Sir Terence Conran, Lady Conran and Peter Prescott on their well-deserved victory. The comments made by the nomination committee were vindicated by the number of votes that they received from their industry peers. Sir Terence, Lady Conran and Peter Prescott’s contribution to the hospitality industry has been massive and this achievement reflects their pioneering spirit and reputation for pushing boundaries within the independent hospitality sector. I would also like to thank this year’s nominations committee for constructing a shortlist of such high quality and supporting this award.”
Also at the awards, The Pig Hotel, in the New Forest, Hampshire, was named Outstanding New Hotel of the Year 2013.
Owner Robin Hutson said: “We are delighted to be recognised for this award, especially as it is nominated by industry experts and voted for by our fellow peers. Since opening we have gone from strength to strength, I’m really proud of the team for all their hard work and dedication. Next year we will open a further two properties so it’s a really exciting time for us.”
