Boutique hotel plans kickstart downtown Covington regeneration

US: Plans to convert the City Hall building in Covington, Kentucky, into a boutique hotel have been a catalyst for regeneration in the are according to the city’s mayor.

Mayor Sherry Carran said since businesses heard about the City Hall renovation more companies have shown interest in the downtown area, with developers renovating other old buildings into apartments and more people moving into the neighbourhood.

“Since the announcement with the hotel group and also the growth with the gateway we probably meet with someone who’s interested in investing in the city on a weekly basis,” said Carran.

Aparium Hotel Group, which operates the  The Iron Horse in Milwaukee, and the Elysian Hotel in Chicago, is working with The Salyers Group, a Covington commercial real estate company, on the project to convert the 1909 building.
