US: New York’s Nomad district is to get an SLS boutique hotel, with owner Sam Nazarian continuing his working relationship with designer Philippe Starck on the project.

The Los Angeles-based hotelier said he expects the property at 444 South Park Avenue at 30th Street, to open in Spring 2013. Nazarian opened his first SLS in Los Angeles and, in May this year, a second one in Miami Beach. Another SLS is under construction in Las Vegas in the old Sahara hotel-casino building.

SLS Hotel New York will have 190 rooms and suites, as well as bars in the lobby and on a 14th story rooftop. Nazarian will again work with designer Philippe Starck on the hotel’s interiors.

“New York is the most important market for hoteliers in the USA,” said Nazarian.

The Nomad district has seen a flurry of hotel activity over the last few months, with new properties from Commune and JRK Hotels opening or in the development stage.
