UK: Hotel owner-operator Arora Group has been issued an enforcement notice to demolish all or part of Fairmont Windsor Park.
Planning permission was initially granted in 2019 to redevelop and refurbish the former Savill Court Hotel into the five-star Fairmont Windsor Park. The converted property reopened in 2020 and marked the third Fairmont UK hotel at the time.
An extra wing and an extension to the hotel was reportedly carried out without obtaining the necessary planning permission.
Runnymede Borough Council issued an enforcement notice on 7 July which stated that the breach can be remedied by “making the unauthorised building comply with the terms of the planning permission granted” or to “demolish the building in its entirety” and remove all material from the land.
The notice added that a 12 month compliance period is effective from 7 October 2024. No appeal has yet been lodged. The council said it would consider a retrospective planning application for the hotel.
Surinder Arora, founder and executive chairman of Arora Group, said: “We are truly sorry for the mistakes made during the construction of the Fairmont Windsor Park. We are now constructively engaging with Runnymede council and other local stakeholders to find mutually acceptable solutions to the planning concerns which have been raised.
“The hotel is a fantastic property which we want to ensure it continues serving the local area and bringing significant economic benefits to Runnymede. We remain extremely proud of it but also accept the need to remedy our mistakes,” he added.
Arora Group has recently signed an agreement to redevelop the Luton Hoo Hotel – which the company acquired in 2021 – under the Fairmont brand.
