Malta: A historic building that was once Malta’s first power station is now set to be transformed into a 20-room boutique hotel as part of a redevelopment project at the Valletta Waterfront.
Valletta Cruise Port Ltd has partnered with Valletta Bridge Ltd to renovate the Lascaris Power Station in Floriana. Plans for the site include a boutique hotel, offices, shops, restaurants and other hospitality facilities.
Located close to the Valletta Waterfront and cruise passenger terminals, the building dates back to the 17th century and became Malta’s first power station in the late 19th century.
The project will be led by Valletta Bridge Ltd, a partnership between CPHCL Group, owner of the Corinthia hotel brand, and Attard Bros Group.
Stephen Xuereb, chief executive officer of Valletta Cruise Port, said the agreement marks an “exciting new chapter” for one of Malta’s most distinctive historic buildings, and added that the project will “ensure its preservation and sustainable future use” while giving it a new purpose as a boutique hotel.
Jean-Pierre Schembri, chief executive officer of CPHCL Group, said the redevelopment will “give Malta’s first power station a new life” while supporting the continued growth of the Grand Harbour area.
