Greenwich Magistrates’ Court to become boutique hotel

UK: London Hotel Group (LHG) has been granted planning permission to convert the former Magistrates’ Court and two adjacent school buildings into a 293-bed property.

Scheduled to open in 2022, the conversion of the Grade II-listed building is expected to cost around £70 million, according to Construction Enquirer.

Designed by Squire and Partners, historic features will be retained and a new public square will be introduced around an existing tree.

Four new buildings, in various heights from two to seven stories, will be added along the back of the building.

Once completed, the ground floor and one of the school houses will contain a bar, a restaurant, and a cafe. Other hotel facilities include a gym, a pool, conference space, as well as on-site parking.

Meher Nawab, CEO of London Hotel Group, said: “We are delighted to have achieved planning consent for this high-quality development that is not only respectful to the local heritage, particularly regarding the Magistrates’ Court, but will also bring this brownfield site back into vibrant and viable use.”

London Hotel Group operates a small collection of hotels in the UK, including the Best Western Plus London Croydon Aparthotel, the Best Western Peckham hotel, and the Ibis Styles hotels in Walthamstow and Croydon.
