US: The Prescott Hotel in San Francisco will reopen in March as Hotel Zeppelin.

The 196-room Union Square property, a former Kimpton hotel, closed for renovations in November.

Owned by Pebblebrook Hotel Trust, the property will be managed by Viceroy Hotel Group.

The hotel is being redesigned with “a mischievous approach”. Dawson Design Associates has “constructed a seductive experience inspired by the San Francisco artists, writers, poets, and musicians who broke the rules and changed the world. While the hotel is socially vivid, luxury guestrooms and suites offer a contemporary respite,” the hotel said.

The property was managed by Kimpton until it was acquired last year by IHG. Kimpton subsequently lost management contracts for seven of its nine San Francisco properties, including the Prescott, reportedly because the hotels’ staff would have unionised under IHG management, increasing labour costs.

Kimpton opened the Prescott, along with its Postrio restaurant helmed by Wolfgang Puck, in 1989. Postrio closed in 2009.
