Grand Hotel Les Trois Rois names general manager

Philippe Clarinval

Switzerland: Philippe D. Clarinval has been named general manager of the Grand Hotel Les Trois Rois in Basel, effective July 1 2022.

Clarinval has an extensive academic background in the hotel industry. After achieving an MBA, he obtained a PhD from the University of Liverpool last year.

Prior to his recent appointment, Clarinval managed the Carlton Hotel St. Mortiz until 2021. During his tenure, the hotel was awarded a Forbes 5-Star rating.

Before this, Clarinval was in charge of The Omnia in Zermatt for seven years, and spent some time working internationally in Asia and the USA.

Clarinval said: “I’m fully aware of the responsibilities of managing such a venerable hotel, and I am also very much looking forward to getting to know the historic and charming city of Basel even better with its unique location in the tri-border area. But I also want to share my passion for this outstanding hotel with my future colleagues and create new, one-of-a-kind experiences for our guests.”

Rudolph Schiesser, chairman of the board of directors at the Grand Hotel Les Trois Rois SA, said: “We are confident that Philippe Clarinval is the right person to make our fantastic hotel even better.”

The Grand Hotel Les Trois Rois was built in 1844 and is one of the oldest city hotels in Europe. Directly on the Rhine, the hotel is located in the centre of Basel and was renovated by the Straumann family from 2004 to 2006.

The hotel is also a member of Swiss Deluxe Hotels as well as Leading Hotels of the World.
