In the latest of a regular series, we check in with leading hoteliers and general managers to get an exclusive glimpse into their careers, their lives and their ambitions. This time, we speak to Michael Bonsor, managing director at Rosewood London.

I enjoy my job because…

I’m surrounded by exceptional people who are passionate about their job, and meeting fascinating guests from all across the globe.

I find my job challenging because…

Of time management! You want to give as much of yourself to running the hotel, as well as being married and a never ending social life – balancing all three becomes complicated! However so rewarding when it all clicks together.

My best achievement in business was…

Opening Rosewood London and firmly positioning it as one of the finest hotels in London – an achievement in such a competitive market where so many wonderful hotels have been around for centuries!

My worst mistake in business was…

There are no mistakes only lessons, some tougher than others. But you learn from it all.

What I am yet to accomplish is…

Possibly owning my own business in the future.

If I could change one thing about myself, it would be…

To better in the morning… I am not so chirpy in the early hours.

If I could change one thing about the industry, it would be…

The perception that it is a low skilled industry. It is far from it when you see the hours of training, and the passion and dedication of the team.

My top three bucket list items are…

More European travel, visiting the Maldives, and more gym time.

My life philosophy is…

Work hard, retire early.

My favourite song, book or film is…

At the moment it’s the book Exhalation by Ted Chiang.

My ideal weekend would be…

On a desert island with no phone coverage!

Be in the know.
