India: Alila Hotels & Resorts is to convert a 230-year old fort in Rajasthan in to a 59-suite luxury resort.

Alila Fort Bishangarh will open in late 2013 following a restoration and conversion process. Positioned on a granite hill in the Aravalli Mountain range, the site is owned by the ruling Maharaja, Rao Rajendra Singh, and has been in his family since the 14th century. The fort is thought to be the only one of its kind to be converted into a heritage resort and is an unique example of the Jaipur Gharana architecture influenced by both the Mughals and the British.

The resort will feature 59 suites, each with large bay windows, day beds and bathrooms with footed bathtubs. Each suite will comfortably accommodate a family of four.

Leisure facilities will include a spa, two restaurants, an all-day coffee lounge, a bar and cigar room, wine cellar and library. In a new structure down the hill from the fort there will be a pool, pool terrace and juice bar, fitness centre and children’s club.

Located at Bishangarh Village in the Jaipur District, Alila Fort Bishangarh is three hours by road from Indira Gandhi International Airport, New Delhi and one hour from Jaipur Airport. It will become the third Alila property in India, joining the Alila Diwa Goa and Alila Bangalore.
