South Africa: Boutique property on Cape Town’s Mouille Point Promenade gets R1 million refurbishment.

Operator Newmark Hotels hired designer Francois du Plessis to refresh the bathrooms in all rooms, suites and the penthouse.

Neil Markovitz, managing director of Newmark Hotels, said that because Du Plessis was involved with the original redesign of the hotel, “he understands the essence of the brand and this is evident in the end result”.

The three-month refurb also included work on the lobby, and landscaping of the gardens. Du Plessis said: “My personal philosophy is that an interior creation should be indicative of the client, architecture and project. This project has really allowed us to have fun, playing with quirky colour, texture and fabric combinations, all selected to complement the art-deco architecture and the brand’s inherent nature.”

Markovitz said: “This upgrade has been very well received, as I believe it completes the cool, chic and modern look of the property which also goes hand in hand with the new logo – a perfect match for the hotel’s vibrant, trendsetting clientele.”

Newmark Hotels was first established in 1972 as the Ambassador Group, with the Ambassador Hotel in Bantry Bay as its first establishment. It manages, partially owns or represents six luxury boutique hotels in the Western Cape including the Ambassador Hotel, Queen Victoria Hotel, Victoria & Alfred Hotel, La Splendida Hotel, Dock House Boutique Hotel & Spa and Strandloper Ocean Lodge in Paternoster.
