Raithwaite Sandsend unveils renovation plans

Raithwaite Sandsend

UK: Raithwaite Sandsend in North Yorkshire has unveiled extensive renovation plans along with a strong sustainability focus.

Maritime Capital, the new ownership team, acquired the hotel in 2019. Work is already complete on Bar 1822 – an alfresco dining terrace and restaurant – with a refresh of all 45 bedrooms set to finish in time for summer.

Six additional luxury suites are being built within the grounds, and the first guests will start arriving from October 2021.

A recently appointed senior food team, led by MasterChef semi-finalist Ollie Hunter, will develop kitchen gardens and implement organic farming to feed the hotel’s kitchen. The team are also partnering with Sapling Vodka, which make spirit from 100 per cent British wheat, to create a Forest Garden which promotes biodiversity.

Ryan Osborne has been appointed head chef having previously led kitchens at Greens of Whitby and The Star Inn The Harbour, under Michelin star chef Andrew Pern.

The hotel has also installed a carbon neutral biomass boiler, with ambitions to achieve zero waste by the end of 2022 and net zero by 2023. Departmental ‘Green Leaders’ have been appointed to drive positive change internally.

In July last year, Raithwaite announced its new identity as Raithwaite Sandsend, which marked the beginning of the hotel’s multimillion pound renovation and development scheme.
