Hotel AMANO Covent Garden appoints GM

Simon Galic

UK: Simon Galic has been appointed opening general manager of the Hotel AMANO Covent Garden which is scheduled to open this May.

The London property is set to be The AMANO Group’s first hotel to open outside of Germany. First announced in November last year, it will comprise 141-rooms, a roof terrace, sky bar and basement bar.

Galic began his career in Bath as operations manager of the Sherlock Holmes Hotel, part of the Park Plaza Hotel Group. He later joined Firmdale working across its properties The Pelham, Haymarket Hotel and Number Sixteen.

In 2015, Galic moved to The Hoxton as general manager of the brand’s Shoreditch property. Thereafter he landed a role as opening general manager of The Hoxton Southwark Hotel in 2018.

Speaking about his appointment, Galic said: “It’s a tremendous honour to launch The AMANO Group’s first hotel outside of Germany. I’m excited to bring the AMANO spirit to life at Hotel AMANO Covent Garden, which celebrates both Berlin and London’s cultural identities through its design, atmosphere and unique food and beverage offering.”

Ariel Schiff and Phillip Rokeach, founders of The AMANO Group, said: “We’re looking forward to launching our first international property in London in May, and we’re confident there is no better person to lead the way than Simon. His industry experience and knowledge of London and its ever-evolving hotel scene will help to position Hotel AMANO Covent Garden as one of the city’s most exciting new destinations for 2022.”

The AMANO Group is a Berlin-based hotel company which currently owns 10 hotels, located in Berlin, Düsseldorf and Munich. Sites in Leipzig and London are under construction, plus three more hotels in Hamburg and Munich are in the planning stages.
