Canopy by Hilton London City announces GM

Orta named general manager of first UK Canopy hotel

Beatriz Orta

UK: The new Canopy by Hilton, London City, the lifestyle brand’s first UK property, has named Beatriz Orta as its general manager.

In her new role, Orta will be responsible for overseeing the launch of the hotel, which is set to occur later this summer.

Orta brings over 20 years of experience in the European hospitality industry to her new role. Most recently, Orta worked for the Holiday Inn, London Camden Lock, as the general manager, a role that she started in 2016.

In 2018, Orta was presented the “General Manager of the Year” award, which recognised her work to transform her business’ strategy and to build up internal talent, resulting in a successful year for her team.

The Canopy by Hilton, London City is owned and operated by 4C Hotel Group. The group closed the deal for the property in April 2020 for £65 million.

Neil Taylor, COO of 4C Hotel Group, said: “We’re delighted to have Beatriz at the helm of our brand-new opening and for her to bring the positive, lifestyle ethos of the Canopy by Hilton brand to the UK. Beatriz’s extensive industry expertise and leadership qualities have already been pivotal in the development and preparation of the hotel, ready for launch.”

The new Canopy hotel, which will include 340 rooms, is located in the London Minories development, in close proximity to the city. The building’s location is close to a number of London landmarks, including Tower Bridge, St Paul’s Cathedral and Borough Market, and is only a five-minute walk from the Aldgate Tube Station.

The facility will include a rooftop terrace, a cafe, and a restaurant, which are all inspired by local culture. Additionally, the Canopy will contain a meeting space, called Dunstans Den, which, along with the hotel’s close proximity to the city, is expected to drive business demand.

The Canopy by Hilton, London City joins the Canopy lifestyle brand’s portfolio of 27 currently operating properties, with another 30 in development. The London City location will be the brand’s first in the UK.

Orta said: “I am thrilled to be joining Canopy by Hilton at such an exciting time for the brand and looking forward to continuing my journey with the 4C Hotel Group. We can’t wait to open the doors of our brand-new hotel to guests and hope our new, design-led space in the heart of the City offers business travellers, locals and vacationers the perfect base to enjoy everything the Capital has to offer. Our team have been working hard in collaboration with ACMEs incredible team of interior designers to ensure guests can experience the cultural heritage of their surroundings through every element of the hotel’s design. From the textiles used in the restaurant through to the coffee beans selected and served in the café, we can’t wait for travellers to experience our very own piece of East London.”

Canopy by Hilton is the hotel chain’s lifestyle brand. In total, Hilton manages 18 brands comprising more than 6,400 properties in 119 countries.
