UAE: General Hotel Management (GHM) has named Fabio Marigliano as general manager of The Chedi Al Bait, Sharjah, and Morton Johnston as general manager of The Chedi Katara Hotel & Resort in Doha.
Marigliano brings over 20 years of hospitality experience to his role, joining from Minor Hotels and Resorts where he most recently served as executive assistant manager.
Johnston was previously general manager at The Chedi Muscat, Oman. He has held key leadership positions at Regent Hotels & Resorts in Taipei and The Leela Palaces & Resorts in India.
In his new position, Johnston will oversee the landmark opening of The Chedi Katara Hotel & Resort in Doha in the second half of 2022. It’s a 247 acre beachfront property in Katara Cultural Village district and is set to launch in time for the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
Speaking about his appointment, Marigliano said: “Joining the GHM family at The Chedi Al Bait, Sharjah is a culmination of my extensive experience within the GCC (Gulf Cooperation Council) region. I am delighted to embark on this exciting GHM journey as we celebrate the company’s 30th anniversary in 2022 and bring the hotel’s success to greater heights. I look forward to leveraging my knowledge and in-market experience together with my world-class team.”
Johnston said: “The highly-anticipated opening of The Chedi Katara Hotel & Resort will redefine bespoke hospitality in the GCC region. It is my privilege to be given the opportunity to craft the prologue of this new beachfront landmark of the Katara Cultural Village in Qatar’s capital, which will be the accommodation of choice for discerning world travellers.”

GHM currently has seven projects in the pipeline, including The Chedi El Gouna, Red Sea, Egypt.
