Portugal: Lionel Alvarez has been appointed general manager of Viceroy at Ombria Resort and Viceroy Residences.
The hotel complex, Viceroy at Ombria Resort and Viceroy Residences, will open in 2022 in Portugal’s Algarve region.
It will include 76 guestrooms and suites, as well as 65 residences. The project marks Viceroy Hotels & Resorts’ first hotel in Southern Europe.
Other amenities include a spa, health and fitness facilities, heated pools, restaurants and bars, a conference centre, and a kid’s club.
The Viceroy Residences at Ombria Resort include one and two bedroom apartments, all being fully furnished.
Previously, Alvarez opened the Aman Resort’s Hotel Bora Bora, Paraiso de la Bonita Resort & Thalasso in Mexico, Castillo Hotel Son Vida Spain, and Hotel Las Ventanas al Paraíso, a Rosewood Resort in Mexico. Recently, Alvarez managed the Vila Monte Farm House & Villa Índigo in Algarve.

I am particularly excited to be spearheading the launch of the first Southern European Hotel and Residences managed by Viceroy Hotels & Resorts. The ‘Viceroy at Ombria Resort’ and the ‘Viceroy Residences at Ombria Resort’ is a unique and challenging hotel complex which will allow me to implement much of what I have developed during my time at various luxury hotels around the world.”
